Being Together Sunday Dec. 23

This week we will explore the spiritual value of remembrance and joy.  We will share with each other memories from our life that we cherish, focusing on the holidays for those who so desire.  I remember the funny costume my mother made for me to be in the Christmas pageant.  I was Adam.  she took two pieces of posterboard and pasted fig leaves on.  of course she did so few that the white board was what you mainly saw.  I looked like I was hawking fig leaves on the street for a shop, whereas Eve looked wonderful all dressed in fig leaves pinned to a dress.  Then I was embarassed.  This year I laugh.  Come share your stories!  Our Eucharist begins at 6PM, but if anyone would like to come a little early and help set up the door is open 20 minutes before being together.  If you think you will be coming you might drop a line to Father John.  Blessings and happy preparations for the holidays.

Tomorrow, November 11, we will resume our 6 PM Contemplative service and discussion. The discussion is "Good Habits, Bad Habits" Can I cultivate habits that reduce stress? Can spirituality support me doing this?  Come join us for centering worship and relevant conversation.

(The picture is unrelated to the posting.  It is there because I like it.)

Our Fall 2012 Program: Sept 16 through Dec.30

We are beginning our Fall 2012 Program.  We have moved to Sunday night at 6:30 PM.  We will meet for 45 minutes exploring ways spirituality and faith might be relevant to the actual details of our lives.  We welcome all perspectives, from any faith or none, and all people will participate.  Father John will always present briefly from historical sources, Christian and other, focusing on the things he suspects will be the most helpful.  Then the discussion is up to everyone.

We have planned out our topics for the year and you can see them on the second page of the flyer here ==> Topics for Fall Meetings

The group is preceded by a Contemplative Eucharist at 6:00 PM.  This is a quiet service with simple chants to promote a peaceful experience of God.  All are welcome.

Sunday, September 18, 2012: Unconditional Love

Our meeting on March 11 was very rewarding with our discussion of how anger works in our life. This Sunday, March 18, 2012 we will think about God's unconditional Love for us, even when we know there are things for which other people might judge us unfavorably. We will use Rob Bell's video in his Nooma Series called "Lump". You can read the description on the Nooma site. Come and invite a friend as we look more deeply at life while being together. We begin the program at about 6:45 after the 6:00 PM Service and a brief time for refreshment and fellowship.

Time for Being Together

"Being Together resumes this Sunday Night, March 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM.

After a 5 month hiatus "Being Together" will resume on this coming Sunday Night at 6 PM. We will be exploring whether Sunday night is not a better time to meet, and because we will start at 6PM and end at 7:30PM there will be plenty of time to make it an early night before our oft-dreaded Monday.

At 6 PM we will have a simple contemplative Eucharist to help us hear God "in the still small voice". As time goes forward we may as a group have ideas of how to conduct this service so that it is both a communication to God of who we are as well as a time to allow God to speak to us.

At 6:30 PM we will watch a Rob Bell video called "Shells". The symbol on the front of it is a watch. It talks about time. You can see the official blurb here. We will use it as a launchpad to talk about our own experience of time. Some of us may feel like life is hectic. Some of us may feel it is slow and uneventful. Many of us may be content with what our life contains. Others of us may wonder is there more. What is our experience of time in our life.

We will also brainstorm our upcoming meetings. Our goal is to support each person in the reality of our lives. So we will make our plans accordingly.

This Thursday, March 17 we will look at Spirituality and our Bodies. We will seek to honor our bodies and learn some exercises to help our bodies calm down and relax so that we can have a blessed life.

Come and bring a friend!
